README FOR OLDBLIVION ALPHA VERSION 0.11t2
=======================================================
             http://www.oldblivion.com/

           !!! THIS IS A TEST RELEASE !!!

1. INTRODUCTION
This application will enable you to run Elder Scrolls:
Oblivion on older hardware which lacks 2.0 shader
support.
It works be dynamically altering the execution flow of
Oblivion so that older shaders can be used. The DLL is
what lives in the process space of Oblivion and it is
what provides most of the functionality.
The DLL patches about 15 or so locations known to cause
issues with older hardware. It also introduces a
dynamic shader compiler which can override the shaders
in Oblivion.
This should allow you to run Oblivion with default
settings without everything getting weird.

2. MANUAL

2.1 INSTALLATION
Installation is very simple. Simply unzip it to a
directory of your choice. I would not recommend putting
it in the Oblivion folder since it uses very generic
folder names. At least put it in its own folder.

2.2 GETTING STARTED
In order to start the application all you have to do is
launch the oldblivion.exe file. It contains standard
override shaders.

2.3 RECOMMENDED GRAPHICAL SETTINGS
Change fLodLandVerticalBias in your
"My Documents\My Games\Oblivion\Oblivion.ini" to -1200
or so.

2.4 OLDBLIVION.CFG SETTINGS
AutoUpdate
1: [DEFAULT] Auto update is active. The oldblivion server
    will be queried for updates.
 0: Auto update is inactive.

ForceUpdate
1: Download and replace your current version with the
latest most stable version no matter if you version is
    newer.
0: [DEFAULT] Do not replace your current version.

CrashPatchX
1: [DEFAULT] Protect against known crashes reported by
    users.
0: Do not protect against crashes. These may happen at
random locations and just because you do not crash
immediately doesn't mean you wont later.

FogNear
Where you want the in-game fog to start.

FogFar
Where you want the in-game fog to end.

RenderPasses 7
Render passes bitmask: Bit 0: Ambient
                        Bit 1: Diffuse
                        Bit 2: Texture
                        Bit 3: Specular
0: No render passes will be active.
 1: Ambient
 2: Diffuse
 3: Ambient and Diffuse
 4: Texture
 5: Texture and Ambient
 6: Texture and Diffuse
7: [DEFAULT] Texture, Diffuse and Ambient
 8: Specular
 9: Specular and Ambient
 10: Specular and Diffuse
 11: Specular, Diffuse and Ambient
 12: Specular and Texture
 13: Specular, Texture and Ambient
 14: Specular, Texture and Diffuse
15: Specular, Texture, Diffuse and Ambient

ForceLightingAndFog
1: [DEFAULT] Forces the active lighting passes to the
value of RenderPassses and the fog start to the value
of FogNear and the fog end to the value of FogFar.
This happens automatically upon entering a zone or a
    load.
0: Lets Oblivion decide what lighting and fog settings
    you should run.

ForceAlphaBlend
1: [DEFAULT] Forces alpha blending on foliage.
0: Lets Oblivion decide wether to alpha blend foliage.
Usually results in the grass being solid.

UseCustomShaders
 1: [DEFAULT] Uses olsblivion's custom 1.1 shaders.
0: Uses Oblivion's built in shaders which are broken.

Use20Water
1: [DEFAULT] Enabled ps 2.0 water if your card is
    capable of it.
 0: Disables ps 2.0 water.

Force1XRenderPath
1: [DEFAULT] Forces Oblivion to use 1.X shaders for
everything. Without this you might get some odd
bugs with see through objects and other strangeness.
0: Lets Oblivion decide which path you should take.

AssembleShaders
1: Assembles a custome shader package from the source
vertex and pixel shaders you have disassembled
    previously.

DisassembleShaders
1: This will cause Oldblivion to disassemble the shaders
used by Oblivion. This is generally a developer
    setting.
0: [DEFAULT] Does not disassemble shaders.

ForceDistantTreeAlpha
1: [DEFAULT] Forces trees on distant LOD land to be
    alpha mapped.
Without this distant trees can be solid.
0: Lets Oblivion decide wether to alpha map trees or not.

UseNearWaterShaders
1: [DEFAULT] Runs near water through the shader pipeline.
0: Doesn't run the near water through the shader pipeline.

ShowMissingVertexShaders 1
1: [DEFAULT] Shows vertex shaders which Oblivion has
    requested but weren't found.
 0: Ignores failed requests.

EmulateHWTNL
1: [DEFAULT] Forces directx to report hardware transform
and lighting capabilities. Can be used with certain
integrated graphics cards. If you have a good 2.0
integrated graphics card which lacks this I would
recommend setting Force1XRenderPath to 0 and
UseCustomShaders to 0. This includes some Intel
    integrated cards.
0: Lets directx report whatever hardware transform and
    lighting capabilities it wants to.

AllowPreGeforce4
1: [DEFAULT] Allows cards which does not have pixel shader
1.3 or greater to pass the graphics card test.
0: Let these cards crash Oblivion.

Version
DO NOT CHANGE. THIS IS USED FOR THE AUTO UPDATE FEATURE!

2.5 REPLACING SHADERS
If you want to develop your own custom shader package
open oldblivion.cfg and change DisassembleShaders to 1 and
AssembleShaders to 1. This should produce two directories,
one named ps_x_y and one named vs_x_y. This is so that you
can implement some special shaders for your own shader
models. Once they are disassembled you can change
DisassembleShaders to 0 again if you want the software to
start fasters.

3. KNOWN ISSUES
ISSUE: The grass isn't transparent.
SOLUTION: Turn the "Grass Distance" down to minimum until
          the shader has been fixed.

ISSUE: There's green stuff over the terrain.
SOLUTION: Turn the "Distant Land" off until the shader has
          been fixed.

ISSUE: There's rainbow colors all over the screen.
SOLUTION: Turn "Bloom Lighting" off until the shader has
          been fixed.

ISSUE: The water is weird.
SOLUTION: Turn "Water Reflections" off and "Water Ripples"
off until the shader has been fixed.

ISSUE: Objects flicker in and out in the distance.
SOLUTION: Nothing you can do except turning the
"View Distance" down and wait for the shaders to
          implement fog.

ISSUE: Grass flickers when I run around.
SOLUTION: None

4. FAQ

5. REPORTING ERRORS
If you experience a crash save the game as close as possible
to the place where you crash. Send that save game to me at
asp@bluemail.org. Make sure you included detailed
information on what I should do from your save game to make
the game crash. Please make sure you compress the save game.

6. REVISION HISTORY
0.10 - Fixed issues with ghosting on Radeon cards. Thanks to
Ken, Teshi and s3b for helping me by experimenting with
       their setup.
     - Oldblivion now auto updates. This means you should
always have the most current version. You can turn
auto updates off by changing AutoUpdate to 0 in the
       oldblivion.cfg file.
     - Oldblivion now uses Oblivion's own memory manager
routines when allocating memory which should fix a few
issues where oldblivion shares memory with Oblivion.

0.1c - Having oldblivion in an overly long path no longer
overflows the internal shader package buffer in
       oblivion.
     - Transparent foilage is now kind of working. It's
disabled by default. Edit the oldblivion.cfg file to
       ForceAlphaBlend to 1.
     - Oldblivion can now be configured via oldblivion.cfg.
The file will be generated on first launch. Edit it
       if oldblivion is introducing bugs.

0.1b - Benirus Manor Basement now works without crashes.
     - Application now creates .sdp files on the fly
     - Fixed a bug where vertex shaders weren't being
       overridden.

0.1a - First alpha release
